Deforestation (destruction of forests) is a type of habitat loss (an ecological harm).

Causes
Forests are typically cleared to make room for agriculture (especially animal agriculture) which needs a lot of land.
Effects
- Endangered species go extinct.
- Carbon is released into the atmosphere (climate change).
Solutions
Reducing the amount of land needed for food:
- by fighting against food waste, and
- by eating more plant-based.
See also
- Tree farming for wood production - surprisingly not a significant contributor to deforestation.
- Old growth forests - the most important forests to protect
- Hunger - Solving global hunger should not be pitted against solving deforestation.
