How to make this work?

What should I (the webmaster) put in place to enable people to easily contribute to the research?

I'm trying to set it up in a way that...

• anyone can contribute information on any material (glass, steel, etc)
• the information fits into the framework I wrote (environmental impacts)

Should there be some sort of a workspace? Perhaps a wiki table or two? I'm looking for ideas.
