This is my attempt at formalizing my intentions for this wiki/platform/project. I'm expressing it as a "SMART goal".

TODO: add an external link to some blogger telling ppl what SMART goals are; there are plenty of folks writing about it on the internet

Specific

  1. This wiki shall be a platform, both for informal half-baked ideas/discussions, and for solid consensuses backed by rigorous research. It shall serve as a pipeline from the former to the latter.
    • I shall design a framework that can make room for content in every writing style and every level of detail & certainty. It should even make room for bad ideas, along with a solid explanation of why they're bad.
  2. I shall post online my current ideas, fitting them easily into this framework. This includes ideas from my scratch notes (currently saved offline on my laptop) and from the content I've already posted online on this wiki (I may need to move a lot of stuff around).
  3. I shall open up the wiki, so that other people can add their ideas and extend mine.
    • It must be done safely. I need a plan (and backup plan) to manage the potential chaos. Trolls & spammers shouldn't be able to waste more than 4 hours/week of my time, for example.

Measurable

Project:Refactor provides a list of things that my framework has to include. I hope the list is descriptive enough.

How I'll know when the framework is good enough: My scratch notes will start falling into place, with room for everything I wanted to say.

Achievable

As you can see, I'm not trying to do a master's thesis on every subject. I'm just trying to turn what's already in my head (knowledge/understanding) into online content that other people can understand and build upon. I think this is pretty achievable, as long as I invent a format that works.

Relevant

This whole project is only relevant to people who want to make the world better. This is not a platform for how to make selfish gains, except for ones that are win-win for society.

If all goes well, this platform will be a tool, an "idea mill", and a much-needed missing piece from our current political & academic landscape.

Time-bound

  • October 1, 2024 I should be finished designing the framework.
  • November 1, 2024 I should be done with all the technical work that the framework requires (including writing code if needed).
  • May 1, 2025 All my most important ideas/notes should be turned into content via the framework.
  • June 1, 2025 Time to fullyopen the wiki.
