Make the food supply more plant-based
Why
How
- First and foremost, people's diets would have to actually be more plant-based - especially people in developed ("first-world") countries, which currently consume more animal protein than the rest of the world. discussion Might even be "than the rest of the world combined". But I don't have the exact statistics at the moment.
- See also: How to eat more plant-based.

- Systemic changes may be needed too:
- Abolishing some farm subsidies: For example, in Canada, dairy farmers are paid to produce milk even when no one is buying it (it goes to waste). Other countries may be similar - see discussion. Side note: Some of these farm subsidies might be a lot easier to abolish if animal products weren't so popular - see point #1.
- Possibly other systemic changes: See discussion.
