Why

In some parts of the world (such as Canada & USA), houses are traditionally quite big but there's a housing shortage. There's also a mismatch: Single people outnumber single-person-sized homes by 3-to-1.

Subdividing is one way to increase the housing supply without so much expensive(...)( and resource-intensive ) new construction.
