EVs should warn animals before starting up
Animals like to hide under cars, especially to stay warm in the winter. Gas-powered cars make a lot of sound and vibrations when they start up, which is a good thing: The animal runs away before the wheels start turning. That way it doesn't get crushed.
But what about electric vehicles? Do they give enough warning?
Proposed standard
It's great that most EVs make a sound effect when they start up, but maybe that's not enough. The EV should also rock back and forth gently before it starts moving forward.
- This could probably be implemented easily because electric motors can easily reverse without changing gears.
- It could be something like: Move the car forward 1cm, back 1cm, forward 2cm, back 2cm, forward 4cm, back 4cm, forward 8cm, back 8cm, forward 15cm, back 15cm, then start moving.
