Shortage of single-person homes

This is when single people (especially single adults) greatly outnumber single-sized homes (i.e. bachelor, studio, 1-bedroom units, etc.).

Effects

• High cost of housing.
• People have to live with roommates or even ex-partners, even if they'd rather live alone.
• Makes it harder for anyone who needs to escape an abusive relationship.
• Shortage affects couples & families too:
  Since a single-sized home can be almost as expensive as a multi-bedroom home, then any single person who can afford to live alone might as well choose a multi-bedroom one. This leaves less housing available for families.

Solutions

• Subdivide housing
• Build more housing
